How a Work Comes to Life

Preparation
Every work begins not with the brush but with a period of prayer and contemplation. The artist sets aside time to enter the right spiritual state before approaching the canvas.

Composition
No sketches. No underdrawing. Siddiqui works directly on the canvas — the letterforms emerge from a lifetime of practice, guided by instinct and devotion.

Completion
The work is complete when the artist knows it is. Not when every corner is filled, but when the spirit has spoken. Some works take hours; others return to the easel over weeks.
The Tools of Devotion
Siddiqui works primarily with oil and acrylic on stretched canvas, building rich, textured surfaces that give the calligraphy its characteristic depth. The same Arabic script rendered in oil has a completely different presence to acrylic — one is warm and weighted, the other luminous and immediate.
